  • Cascade Harvest Coalition:  Project manager for the 2nd annual Eat Local for Thanksgiving campaign: Developed campaign plan and increased participation by 20 percent through marketing and communications tools, including social media
  • Northwest Agriculture Business Center:  Program writer/editor and media relations for annual conference; resulted in regional radio and print coverage
  • Sage Environmental: Research and analysis of programmatic best practices for salmon recovery programs to identify gaps

  • Writing and editing:  Marketing and editorial writing includes business-to-business articles, artist profiles, consumer articles, press releases, web copy and more; editing includes fiction and non-fiction manuscripts, personal/artist biographies, pitch documents and script editing for film and television production (with Vancouver-based companies)


Public Outreach: Communications Specialist, Snohomish County, 2006 – 2008

  • Developed and managed marketing, PR, and outreach campaigns for County Executive Aaron Reardon’s Agriculture Initiative; developed campaigns, produced collateral and events, managed and wrote web content; directed outside vendors and consultants. Successfully built awareness among regional public about farming issues and brought farmers together to advocate for their needs and provide tools for greater economic success.
  • Communications advisor to a team that developed and implemented an outreach strategy for a major update to the Unified Development Code (UDC); the program now serves as a model for other county projects that require a high level of public and stakeholder engagement; included writing key internal and external documents, newsletters, op eds. Successfully engaged the public and key stakeholders to participate in the update process, resulting in more fair and balanced regulations. 
  • Served on Executive Committee for SnoGold 2010, an Executive office business and tourism initiative; developed comprehensive communications plan and collateral materials to support increased tourism and business development in Snohomish County during the 2010 Olympic Games held in British Columbia.
  • Worked with ad-hoc team on initial stages of Executive’s Climate Change Initiative developing messaging strategy and key messages
  • Wrote and edited materials for the Executive Office, Economic Development Office, Surface Water Management and Planning & Development Services


Communications/Special Projects Consultant, Seattle Center, 2001 – 2006

  • Developed, managed, and implemented marketing and communications strategies for Seattle Center’s signature program, Festal, a series of (then) 20 cultural festivals; built the Festal brand and positioned Seattle Center as an advocate for diversity and community through compelling marketing collateral and extensive earned media

  • Assisted small business, community organizations and non-profits to identify issues, develop and implement marketing and communications strategies
  • Clients included:  The Ethnic Heritage Council, Midlife Heroines Adventure Travel, Janzen & Associations (The American Heart Association), The Bartlett Group Public Relations (various projects), Seattle Shakespeare Company, Washington Women in Trades, among others


Marketing & Public Relations Manager, Northwest Folklife, Seattle, 1998 – 2001

  • Part of the transition team that led NW Folklife through an institutional and financial crisis; directed extensive media relations and outreach to key constituents; helped to re-establish Folklife’s ethical standing within its community of supporters, from major donors and community leaders to the general public
  • Directed and managed all phases of the design and implementation of festival public relations and marketing, including developing editorial content and production of two 32-page souvenir programs
  • Project manager for inaugural fundraising auction, which attracted 150 people and netted $60,000

  • Coordinated public meetings and press conferences; oversaw design, production and translation of collateral materials for English, Punjabi and Chinese audiences; coordinated strategic promotional partnerships, advancing organizational goals of greater credibility, visibility and information dissemination; worked to bridge gaps between non-profit organizations and the general public through partnerships with community groups, small business, high-profile personalities and the creation of targeted events
